Fifth Grade Contest to Win a Week at AstroCamp

Michiana fifth graders are invited to enter an essay contest sponsored by the Camp Eberhart Alumni Association. Two winners (one boy and one girl) receive a free week at AstroCamp where they learn telescope skills and spend evenings observing and identifying planets, stars, and constellations. They participate in a number of astronomy activities during the day and earn awards for their accomplishments.
AstroCamp is an astronomy-emphasis week at Camp Eberhart on Corey Lake near Three Rivers, Michigan. This unique experience draws participants from all across the United States. This is one of the very few astronomy camps in the nation for young people ages 9 through 13. The skilled teachers and volunteers bring a wealth of knowledge, a passion for astronomy, and a dedication to helping kids develop a love for the night sky.
Students receive information about the contest during the first week of January and have until February 12, 2018 to submit their essays. Fifth grade teachers are encouraged to integrate this real-life opportunity into their persuasive writing instruction.
